Finds ways you can make a difference in your community
The Speaker’s Bureau is a training program for youth in foster care, ages 14-21, and foster care alumni. This program will prepare youth to make presentations to community stakeholders, policy makers, social workers, private providers, foster parents and other foster care youth, throughout Virginia. These trained youth advocate for themselves and others by giving insight about being in foster care through personal testimonials and by participating on youth panels; speaking at conferences; resource parent training; and facilitating workshops.
The Speaker’s Bureau aims to:
Empower youth to have a positive voice in their communities;
Provide an opportunity to develop positive adult connections in the community; and
Prepare youth to educate targeted audiences about issues that will motivate and inspire change within the foster care system.
