In April 2016, Project LIFE matched its first young adult with a mentor through the Project LIFE mentoring initiative. Since then, a total of 12 youth have been matched with volunteer in the community who is passionate about supporting and mentoring a young person in the foster care system. Project LIFE recently hosted several special dinners to celebrate the mentoring relationships and provide a place for the matches to network with others and share their experiences. Youth shared about the impact of spending holidays with their mentors, getting to meet their mentors’ families, and just having a trusted adult they can call on when times get tough. In one young lady’s words, “My mentor and her family welcomed me like I was their own”.
If you know of a young adult in foster care who is interested in being matched with a mentor, please complete the referral form. Please note that young adults must be 18 or over to be matched. For more information, please view our flyer. If you have further questions or if you know someone interested in volunteering as a mentor, please contact Talia Brown.
